Tie The Knot Partners with Outserve-SLDN

OutServe.jpg

We are excited to announce that we are donating 100% of our profits from the sale of our limited edition bow ties through December 31st to OutServe-SLDN

For nearly 25 years, OutServe-SLDN has been dedicated to bringing full LGBTQ equality to America’s military and ending all forms of discrimination and harassment of military personnel on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. They provide free and direct legal assistance to servicemembers and veterans affected by the repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT) law and the prior ban on open service, as well as those currently serving who may experience harassment and discrimination.

OutServe-SLDN led the fight to repeal DADT, has represented over 12,000 service members, and provides a community for over 25,000 active members through their 80 local chapters around the globe.

Now, with the current administration’s attempt to ban transgender military service, OutServe-SLDN has been leading the legal battle to protect transgender servicemembers. Your support will help them prepare for the legal battles ahead, as well as help servicemembers discharged as a result of their sexual orientation have their record cleansed so they can finally have their service characterized appropriately and access the veterans’ benefits they’ve earned.

20$ of every $25 Tie The Knot purchase is donated to frontline organizations fighting for LGBTQ equality. All profits raised from the sale of our Tie The Knot collection this month will be donated directly to OutServe-SLDN.

Dominique Ansel and Tie The Knot Design a Special Bow Tie

Dominique Ansel.jpg

Chef Dominique Ansel has teamed up with Tie The Knot to create a limited-edition pastry-inspired bow tie that gives back, which the entire team at the new Dominique Ansel Bakery in Los Angeles wear each day. $20 of every $25 bow tie is donated to advocate for LGBTQ equality worldwide.

“As chefs, so much of what we do in this industry is about giving back - sharing what we cook and what we create with others, and giving back to our communities,” says Dominique. “I’m excited to team up with Tie The Knot, Jesse, and Justin to create a pastry-inspired bow tie that supports LGBTQ equality. Our entire team at Dominique Ansel Bakery Los Angeles proudly wears them each day."

"I'm glad Dominique Ansel - and the Cronut - are coming to L.A.! Better yet, the team is going to look so dapper in their Tie The Knot bow ties. Congratulations, Dominique, and thank you for supporting LGBTQ equality in the culinary world,” says Jesse.

Tie The Knot Teams Up with OutRight International

OutRight.png

$20 of every $25 Tie The Knot bow tie purchase goes directly toward support LGBTQ initiatives worldwide. From now until November 24, 2017, all profits raised via the sale of our limited-edition bow ties will support OutRight Action International - a leading international organization dedicated to human rights advocacy on behalf of people who experience discrimination or abuse on the basis of their actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

OutRight has been fighting for the human rights of LGBTIQ people since 1990. In at least 72 countries globally, same-sex relations (let alone relationship recognition) between consenting adults remains illegal; penalties range from corporal punishment, to jail terms, to life imprisonment, to the death penalty. OutRight partners with local LGBTIQ organizations across four regions and maintains a cross-regional LGBTIQ initiative at the United Nations in New York.

In September, OutRight helped organize the largest assembled panel of global world leaders to discuss and promote LGBT equality during meetings of the General Assembly. In December, they will organize the largest group of LGBTIQ activists to visit New York to help inform diplomats and UN agencies about what's needed on the ground in each of their countries.

The Stonewall Riots started with police brutality and we see it again and again around the world. OutRight supports training of police in the Caribbean and in the Philippines to head off police harassment. In the Philippines alone they have trained over 2,000 officers.

LGBTIQ rights lag behind in many parts of the Caribbean where British colonial legacy laws (against consensual sex) still make love and self-expression illegal. OutRight is helping to register and organize Caribbean LGBTIQ groups to ensure they have the capacity to do the work needed to change hearts, minds and laws on the ground.

When LGBTIQ activists are under attack, or when they fear that their governments are after them, OutRight provides vital security training to activists who are in harms way.

And when media reports fuel homophobia and transphobia or spread information – OutRight trains who need to better understand how to communicate about LGBTIQ people.

Just Love Campaign Recap

Last month, we launched our Just Love Campaign, which was designed to simply-- celebrate love! As divisiveness and anger plague our country, we thought there was no better time to launch this campaign. Our goal was to directly engage with our followers, and remind the world to embrace a message of love. We hope you enjoyed this campaign as much as we did!

At the same time, we also launched our best selling collection, the bow ties that YOU loved the most! The season’s guest designer was Joanna Coles who created a one-of-a-kind bow tie to support the organization. “I couldn’t be happier to partner with Jesse, Justin, and Tie the Knot to further advance equality for the LGBTQ community," said Coles. "Using my love of fashion to help ensure that everyone in America is treated with dignity and respect is an opportunity I could not pass up." Check out our collection!

We had numerous celebrity influencers join us to share photos of them wearing our best selling collection. Here are some of our favorite celebrity posts:

Aside from our celebrity friends, we had tons of people participate in our TTK Just Love photo-sharing contest for a chance to win a free bow tie! There were so many great photos it was virtually impossible for us to chose, but here are our 3 favorites:

Just Love Campaign

This February, Tie The Knot is launching its Just Love Campaign, in partnership with our best selling bow tie collection!

When Tie The Knot was founded in 2012 to advocate for marriage equality throughout the United States, only six states and Washington D.C. recognized marriages for same-sex couples. Today, having raised over $500,000 – five years and forty-four states later – the initial Tie The Knot goal of realizing full federal marriage equality was accomplished. Today, same-sex couples across the country can marry in all 50 states and have their marriages recognized.

But there is still so much work to do! So, as we launch our Winter 2017 "Best of" Collection with your favorite designs reimagines, we want to celebrate - just love!

Along with our Just Love Campaign and best-selling collection, we created a photo-sharing contest to go along with it. Make sure to check out the Just Love Campaign page on our website to find out how you could win a free bow tie!

As we embark on 2017, let's make it a universal goal to spread a little love. We hope you join us this February in doing just that!

#GiveOUT to the Los Angeles LGBT Center

Tie The Knot is excited to partner with the the Los Angeles LGBT Center as part of it's #GiveOUT campaign: 5 weeks of giving to support LGBTQ rights. All profits raised via the sale of our bow ties between December 18 and December 24 will be donated to the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

The Los Angeles LGBT Center is an unstoppable force in the fight against bigotry and the struggle to build a better world, a world in which LGBT people can be healthy, equal, and complete members of society. The Center's nearly 600 employees provide services for more LGBT people than any other organization in the world via programs and services that span four categories: Health, Social Services and Housing, Culture and Education, Leadership and Advocacy. The Center's success will be pivotal in ensuring LGBT rights are secured and protected under the next federal administration:

  • Next year, thanks to landmark legislation sponsored by the Center, residential “treatment programs” in California responsible for the abuse and even murder of “troubled  teens” -- including those who are simply LGBT — will finally be regulated.

  • The Center’s OUT for Safe Schools™ program, which is creating welcoming school campuses for LGBT students throughout the country, will reach more than 2.5 million students next year.

  • To help stop the spread of HIV the Center co-sponsored a new California law that ensures people who test negative for HIV learn about PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis). The Center is also expanding its capacity to provide PrEP and launching a massive campaign to promote it to those most at risk of HIV infection.

  • The Center is training progressive organizations around the country on how to use its deep canvassing approach to reducing voter prejudice, which was proven highly effective by independent researchers and reported in the Journal of Science this year.

  • To provide quality, affordable medical care and counseling to even more LGBT people in 2017, the Center is significantly expanding its health-related programs and its addition recovery programs.

#GiveOUT to the ACLU LGBT Project

ACLU.png

Tie The Knot is excited to partner with the ACLU LGBT Project as part of it's #GiveOUT campaign: 5 weeks of giving to support LGBTQ rights. All profits raised via the sale of our bow ties between December 11 and December 17 will be donated to the ACLU LGBT Project.

The ACLU LGBT Project works to ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people can live openly without discrimination and enjoy equal rights, personal autonomy, and freedom of expression and association. The ACLU brings more lGBT court cases than any other organization - at the state and federal level. The ACLU LGBT Project will continue to fight to secure and protect LGBTQ rights under a Trump administration:

  • In 2017, the ACLU will go to the Supreme Court to argue on behalf of Gavin Grimm, a 17 year old transgender boy from Virginia who was barred by his school board from using the boy’s restroom at school. The case is one of the first cases on transgender rights to make it to the Supreme Court and has the potential to affirm the fundamental rights of transgender people across the country.

  •  The ACLU is prepared to fight in states across the country if there are any repeat of the efforts in North Carolina last year, where the discriminatory HB2 law was passed that stripped away anti-discrimination protections for LGBT people and barred transgender people from using the restrooms that correspond to their gender identity. The ACLU’s lawsuit against the state of North Carolina challenging HB2 is scheduled to go to trial in May 2017.

  • Ensuring that transgender people have access to gender-affirming health care continues to be a priority for the ACLU. They will continue to pursue opportunities to expand access, including through state courts, as was recently done in Minnesota where an ACLU lawsuit on behalf of a transgender man resulted in a court ruling that Minnesota’s Medicaid program must provide reimbursements for transgender patients seeking gender-affirming health care.

#GiveOUT to The Trevor Project

Tie The Knot is excited to partner with The Trevor Project as part of it's #GiveOUT campaign: 5 weeks of giving to support LGBTQ rights. All profits raised via the sale of our bow ties between December 4 and December 10 will be donated to The Trevor Project.

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24. The Trevor Project is committed to assisting the LGBTQ youth community in the years ahead:

  • In the days following the election, more youth reached out to Trevor’s life-saving programs than ever before.

  • Young people who have been calling The Trevor Project have expressed anxiety about losing their rights and many of them are fearful for their safety.

  • The best way to alleviate the anxiety that a young person may be feeling is to reach out and let them know you care about them and that you are there for them. It only takes one supportive adult to save a young person's life. (Volunteer with The Trevor Project)

  • The Trevor Project is the only national, accredited organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth under 25 years of age.

  • Every day, The Trevor Project is continuing the fight to save the lives of LGBTQ youth, 24/7.

#GiveOUT to the Human Rights Campaign

Tie The Knot is excited to partner with the Human Rights Campaign again as part of it's #GiveOUT campaign: 5 weeks of giving to support LGBTQ rights. All profits raised via the sale of our bow ties between November 27 and December 3 will be donated to the Human Rights Campaign.

The Human Rights Campaign represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization, HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.

  • The Human Rights Campaign Will Fight Back to Protect Our Progress. HRC will fight back every time someone in the Trump White House or in the Cabinet tries to roll back LGBTQ rights. We must work to block and stop each and every attempt.

  • HRC Advocates for Fair-Minded Supreme Court Justices. Donald Trump has vowed to appoint ultra-conservative justices who will tip the scale against equality. We must be prepared to raise our voices in a chorus of protest –– to do everything possible to prevent an all-out rollback of LGBTQ rights.

  • HRC Vows to Take Hate Out of Every State. In the coming year, HRC will be on guard — and on the ground — in states across the country or we risk losing our hard-won gains. You can help us stop states from legalizing discrimination, and advocate for state laws that protect LGBTQ people where they live and work –– stay engaged, be vigilant and speak out.

  • HRC Fights for Transgender Equality. Your support will bring visibility to the discrimination and violence transgender people experience daily and break down the barriers of injustice that prevent transgender people from living safe and full lives. With your help, HRC will fight against every bill targeting transgender people for discrimination that will be introduced in 2017.

TCF.png

Tie The Knot is excited to partner with The True Colors Fund again as part of it's #GiveOUT campaign: 5 weeks of giving to support LGBTQ rights. All profits raised via the sale of our bow ties between November 20 and November 26 will be donated to The True Colors Fund.

Co-founded by Cyndi Lauper, the True Colors Fund works to end homelessness among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth, creating a world in which young people can be their true selves. Through a broad continuum of community organizing, public engagement, public policy, research, and youth collaboration programs, the True Colors Fund is working to end homelessness among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth by creating systemic change.

Cyndi Lauper teamed up with Tie The Knot in early 2016 to design a limited-edition bow tie exclusively with the organization to support her True Colors Fund. (Click here to purchase her design).

  • Over the past year, The True Colors Fund has significantly expanded their efforts to aid communities across the country in the creation of plans to end youth homelessness developing programs in Nashville, TN; Atlanta, GA; Grand Rapids, MI; Lincoln, NE; St. Petersburg, FL; and Los Angeles, CA.

  • The True Colors Fund continues its commitment to developing the next generation of leaders through its youth development programs like: the 40 of the 40 list; the True Fellowship; and the National Youth Forum on Homelessness, a joint venture with the National Alliance to End Homelessness comprised exclusively of young people who have experienced housing instability.

  • The True Colors Fund continues to be one of the two lead organizations pushing for the reauthorization of the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act, which funds the Federal Government's only youth specific homeless programs.

  • The True Colors Fund has recently expanded and updated the 40 to None Network, an online gathering space for educators, service providers, advocates, and youth committed to ending LGBT youth homelessness.

Tie The Knot Rededicates Itself to LGBTQ Equality Worldwide

Advocating for LGBTQ equality around the world and looking damn good while doing it.

With the launch of our fall bow tie collection, we are excited to announce Tie The Knot is rededicating itself to advocate for LGBTQ equality around the world and full federal equality here in the United States.

When Tie The Knot was founded in 2012 by Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson to advocate for marriage equality throughout the United States, only six states and Washington D.C. recognized marriages for same-sex couples. Today, having raised over $500,000 – three years and forty-four states later – the initial Tie The Knot goal of realizing full federal marriage equality was accomplished in June 2015. Same-sex couples across the country can marry in all 50 states and have their marriages recognized.

But there is still more work to do. In over thirty states, LGBTQ Americans lack federal protections in the workplace and are denied equal housing protection. Over 50% of LGBTQ Americans live in a state where they may be denied services based on their sexual orientation and gender identity. Of the 1.6 million homeless youth in the United States, 40% identify as LGBTQ (compared to 7% of the general youth population) and an overwhelming majority name being ‘forced out’ or ‘ran away’ due to family conflict as the reason for their homelessness.

Tie The Knot has rededicated itself to advocating for comprehensive federal protections nationwide and LGBTQ equality around the world by financially supporting front-line organizations fighting for equality and human rights.

We are excited to move forward with this new goal in mind, and we are grateful for your continued support! Remember, 100% of profits from all Tie The Knot partnership products are donated back to Tie The Knot to support impactful organization around the globe that are advocating for LGBTQ equality!
