Tie The Knot Launches 2020 Pride Collection

This Pride month, it is impossible for any LGBTQ person to not reflect on the riots at Stonewall -led in large part by transgender women of color -- as we bear witness to nationwide protests about the systemic racism against black people. Queer people are made up of every minority, and that includes our black brothers and sisters. We will only be equal when we are ALL equal.

The most important part of the Pride experience for me is the legacy of resilience -- refusing to be less than equal -- showing the nation, and the world, that we are HERE, LOUD & PROUD.

In a nation where equality is threatened in too many places, Tie The Knot is dedicated to supporting organizations that are on the ground fighting for equality and human rights for our LGBTQ+ community. In keeping with that promise, I am excited to let you know that we are donating 100% of the profits from our new Pride Collection to the Southern Poverty Law Center!

The Southern Poverty Law Center’s partnership with Tie The Knot seeks to show broad support for the LGBTQ community as the anti-LGBTQ hate groups and attacks rise across the country. More importantly, we want the LGBTQ community — from coast to coast — to know that we all have their backs.

Will you help us raise some awareness? The ask is simple. Show your support by posting a picture of yourself with the “Y’all Means All” sign to Twitter or Instagram, tagging @splcenter, and encouraging your followers to take the #YallMeansAll pledge by going to www.yallmeansall.com

Let’s continue to fight injustice together as we build a nationwide movement of support for the LGBTQ+ community this Pride month.

We are also excited to share the new products that will comprise our 2020 Pride Collection!

This year we are thrilled to offer some new products that you’ll want for you and your friends’ virtual Pride experience!

We have our first swim trunks, bandanas, bow ties, new socks (adult and children sizes), suspenders, lapel pins, and more! No matter how you choose to celebrate Pride this year, we have everything you need!

Tie The Knot Partners With Freedom For All Americans For #GiveOUT Campaign Week 3

Today we the launch the 3rd and final week of our #GiveOUT campaign with Freedom For All Americans! Buying any Tie The Knot product this week will directly support their life-saving work for our LGBTQ community around the world!

As you know, marriage equality is the law of the land. Justin and I fought tirelessly to make that a reality. Yet LGBTQ people are being fired from their jobs, evicted from their homes, and rejected from public spaces as a routine part of daily life in America today. Seven million LGBTQ people reside in 30 states that lack comprehensive, enduring nondiscrimination protections.

And it doesn't have to be this way.

That’s why Justin and I are proud to name Freedom for All Americans a Tie The Knot beneficiary again in 2020.  FFAA was founded to spearhead a nationwide campaign that protects all LGBTQ Americans from discrimination by 2025. Once they secure employment, housing, and public accommodations protections nationwide, they’ll close up shop. You may not often hear a nonprofit tell you they intend to put themselves out of business, but that’s FFAA’s plan - they are unique, to be certain. FFAA is laser-focused on protecting as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.

In the last two years alone, FFAA helped ensure protections or defeat anti-LGBTQ legislation in states where an estimated 3,271,000 LGBTQ Americans reside (including Alaska, Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Texas).

In 2020, FFAA will apply their winning playbook to state-based efforts where there’s a proactive opportunity to win statewide protections. For example, during November elections, the Virginia legislature experienced a pro-LGBTQ majority flip! FFAA is currently working in Virginia to build a powerful coalition that can help secure comprehensive legislative LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections in the first Southern state ever. And in 2020 they’ll also be working tirelessly in Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.

100% of Tie The Knot profits go to front-line LGBTQ organizations. All proceeds raised from the sale of our Tie The Knot Collection this week will be donated directly to Rainbow Railroad.

Tie The Knot Partners With Rainbow Railroad For #GiveOUT Campaign Week 2

Today we the launch 2nd week of our #GiveOUT campaign with Rainbow Railroad! Buying any Tie The Knot product this week will directly support their life-saving work for our LGBTQ community around the world!

Around the world, 70 countries have anti-homosexuality laws, and many more have other laws that discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In 10 countries, same-sex intimacy can be punishable by death. In too many countries, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people are routinely arrested, denied basic human rights, and are being brutally attacked, tortured or even murdered.

They often have nowhere to turn because their government, media, police, religious institutions, and sometimes even their own families, not only tolerate but encourage this brutality.

In the spirit of the Underground Railroad, Rainbow Railroad’s mission is to help persecuted LGBTQI individuals get to safety as they seek a safe haven from state-enabled harassment and violence. Rainbow Railroad was founded in 2006 to provide an additional solution to address the global refugee crisis, to which LGBTQI persons are uniquely vulnerable. Rainbow Railroad provides support to LGBTQI individuals seeking safety with airfare and financial support that facilitates departure, travel, arrival and referral for settlement. Beyond direct financial assistance, Rainbow Railroad provides information, resources and advice for asylum claimants.

Since 2006, Rainbow Railroad has helped more than 600 individuals escape to safety and freedom— averaging 200 people helped in each of the last two years.

100% of Tie The Knot profits go to front-line LGBTQ organizations. All proceeds raised from the sale of our Tie The Knot Collection this week will be donated directly to Rainbow Railroad.

Tie The Knot Partners With Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund During #GiveOUT Campaign

We are excited to launch the 1st week of our #GiveOUT campaign with Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund! Buying any Tie The Knot product this week will directly support their impactful and critical work for our transgender community!

TLDEF is committed to ending discrimination based upon gender identity and expression and to achieving equality for transgender people through public education, test-case litigation, direct legal services, and public policy efforts. TLDEF pursues strategic litigation in states where transgender and non-binary people face the most barriers.

Your support will help strengthen their national communication efforts to share the community stories that need to be told; and help them engage the movement and the broader public in order to advance law and policy wins for transgender people.

Now more than ever, there is a need for transgender-led groups like TLDEF that can fight authentically for the transgender and non-binary community.  I hope you will join us in supporting TLDEF and the fight for transgender equality.

100% of Tie The Knot profits go to front-line LGBTQ organizations. All proceeds raised from the sale of our Tie The Knot Collection this week will be donated directly to OutRight Action International.

Tie The Knot Launches Project Contrast Campaign With Maxwell Poth

Maxwell Poth, LGBTQ+ Photographer and Founder of Project Contrast

Maxwell Poth, LGBTQ+ Photographer and Founder of Project Contrast

We are excited to announce the launch of our latest campaign with LZZR jewelry and Maxwell Poth to benefit Project Contrast! All proceeds from the Tie The Knot x LZZR Jewelry Collection will go to the LGBTQ non-profit.

Project Contrast was originally a photo project created by him, an LGBTQ+ Photographer, to highlight the high suicide rate in his home state of Utah where the leading cause of death for ages 10 - 17 is teen suicide. After growing up Mormon and hearing about the suicide of a young gay mormon boy from his hometown of Bountiful, Utah; Maxwell created his photo project.

The project first involved photographing LGBTQ+ youth in the state of Utah and collecting their stories of what it’s like to be LGBTQ+ where they are from, what they are doing to feel confident in who they are, and then giving advice to other youth just like them.

_M4A4194 copy.jpg

After publishing the photos and stories via OUT Magazine and The Advocate and seeing the positive outlet it was creating for LGBTQ+ youth the project transitioned into a Nonprofit. Now Project Contrast travels the country working with LGBTQ+ youth, centers and clubs collecting their stories and taking their photos to create a content platform where LGBTQ+ youth across the country can relate to one another and realize they are loved and not alone.

Maxwell has traveled to over 16 states and counting, collecting personal stories and helping end the suicide epidemic within the LGBTQ+ youth community. Learn more about Project Contrast here.

Tie The Knot Launches Bundo Bow Tie With John Oliver In Support of Trevor Project and AIDS United

We are excited to announce a limited edition bowtie honoring the fame of Marlon Bundo, aka Bunny of the United States (BOTUS) launching on March 19th. The design follows the viral success of the children’s book Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents a Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, which details a fictional story of the Vice President’s real-life pet having a same sex romance with another rabbit. The Marlon Bundo bow tie will be available exclusively online and in-store (Boston, Chicago, DC, New York, Philly) at The Tie Bar, with $20 of every $25 purchase being donated directly back to Tie The Knot.

Drawing inspiration directly from Marlon’s illustrations, the bowtie design is both formal and whimsical, perfect for anyone looking to make a political statement while “hopping” out on the town. The end result is an abstract multi-colored dot print that’s playful and fun, but also never forgets the importance of the ongoing equality battle it conveys.

Proceeds from the Marlin Bundo bow tie will benefit The Trevor Project and Aids United!

Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.

AIDS United’s history began with the founding of the National AIDS Fund in 1988. For more than two decades, they have supported community-driven responses to the HIV epidemic around the country that reach the nation’s most disproportionately affected populations, including gay and bisexual men, communities of color, women, people living in the deep South and people living with HIV/AIDS

Tie The Knot Launches Stonewall Bow Tie

We are proud to honor the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall uprising with the launch of our official Stonewall Inn Bow Tie. Proceeds from the sales of this bow tie support Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative.

The Stonewall uprisings were a response to years of oppression, harassment, arrests, and homophobic laws that erupted into a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by our LGBTQ community against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. The riots are considered to constitute the most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBTQ rights in the United States.

A year later, Christopher Street Liberation Day was celebrated on June 28, 1970 to mark the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Simultaneous marches sprung up across the nation in Los Angeles and Chicago, which were the first Gay Pride marches in U.S. history.

Tie The Knot Partners With OutRight Action International During #GiveOUT Campaign

We are excited to launch the 3rd week of our #GiveOUT campaign with OutRight Action International! Buying any Tie The Knot product this week will directly support their impactful and critical international work for our LGBTIQ community!

OutRight Action International is a leading organization dedicated to human rights advocacy on behalf of people who experience discrimination or abuse on the basis of their actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

OutRight has been fighting for the human rights of LGBTIQ people since 1990. In at least 72 countries globally, same-sex relations (let alone relationship recognition) between consenting adults remains illegal; penalties range from corporal punishment, to jail terms, to life imprisonment, to the death penalty. OutRight partners with local LGBTIQ organizations across four regions and maintains a cross-regional LGBTIQ initiative at the United Nations in New York.

OutRight holds governments accountable at the United Nations, where they are the only LGBTIQ organization with access and a permanent presence at UN Headquarters in NY. They also publish their own research about LGBTIQ rights and abuses globally, and support grassroots activists around the world. Throughout the year OutRight brings human rights defenders to NY to speak about the violence and persecution they face at the UN. By speaking truth to power, they bring a human face to LGBTIQ people and show that we exist everywhere, and that we deserve basic human dignity, safety, freedom and equality.

This week, 40+ LGBTIQ activists are sharing their stories with OutRight at the UN, learning valuable advocacy skills they can bring back to their own countries and creating a network of leaders that will strengthen and support each other. From Singapore to St. Lucia and from Morocco to Mexico, OutRight is partnering with grassroots groups on the ground to protect and advance LGBTIQ human rights.

100% of Tie The Knot profits go to front-line LGBTQ organizations. All proceeds raised from the sale of our Tie The Knot Collection this week will be donated directly to OutRight Action International.

Tie The Knot Partners With Freedom For All Americans During #GiveOUT Campaign

FFAA.png

We are excited to launch the 2nd week of our #GiveOUT campaign with Freedom for All Americans! Buying any Tie The Knot product this week will directly support their impactful work!

In 2018 alone, Freedom for All Americans won the first statewide ballot fight in US history specifically centered on transgender rights, inspiring the MA electorate to vote 68% in favor of keeping Massachusetts’ state LGBTQ nondiscrimination law fully intact. They also led the campaign in New Hampshire to pass and sign into law – with deep bipartisan support – HB1319, a bill that updated the state’s non-discrimination law to include comprehensive protections for all LGBTQ people. Freedom for All Americans also collaborated with Equality Ohio to pass new LGBTQ non-discrimination protections in Cuyahoga County by organizing the small business community, driving earned media efforts, and providing social media support.

In Alaska, they spearheaded communications and messaging strategies focused on local voters in Anchorage, AK to encourage their favor for dignity and equality at the ballot - where the electorate rejected Proposition 1, the ballot initiative that sought to erase municipal protections for transgender people.

Your support will help launch FFAA’s new strategic roadmap to win comprehensive LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections nationwide by 2025. To that end, FFAA will continue passing legislative and policy protections at state and municipal levels – just as they did in New Hampshire. They will continue defending hard-won victories against legislative and ballot repeal efforts in key states – they are prepared to fight effectively wherever they’re needed, as they did in Anchorage and MA. And they will build momentum, urgency, and action for federal protections so we all have the freedom to work, live, and love – no matter who we are, or where we live.

Time and again, FFAA has rallied Americans to realize for LGBTQ people the promise of liberty and justice that has made this nation great. We encourage your support of Freedom For All Americans with a year-end donation.

100% of Tie The Knot profits go to front-line LGBTQ organizations. All proceeds raised from the sale of our Tie The Knot Collection this week will be donated directly to Freedom For All Americans.

Tie The Knot Supports Stop Homophobic Bullying Project

LACHSA 1.jpg

Tie The Knot is excited to kick-off our annual end-of-year #GiveOUT campaign by supporting Western Justice Center/ENCOMPASS in their project, Stop Homophobic Bullying.

LACHSA2.jpg

The project benefits the Creating Bias-Free Classrooms program.  Creating Bias-Free Classrooms uses professional youth actors and live, scripted and improvisational theater to equip educators to build inclusive learning environments for students targeted by homophobia.

They have trained thousands of teachers, which will have a positive impact on the safety and inclusivity of LGBTQ (actual or perceived) students in their classes throughout their teaching careers.

Their goal? To get 500 donations on Giving Tuesday (11-27-18).

Funding this program will help them bring it to schools who otherwise couldn’t afford it. And LGBTQ students are among the highest targets for bullying, and teachers intervene in homophobic bullying less than other types of bullying.

To donate, please click here. You can also support their work through the purchase of one of our limited-edition bow ties, scarves, or pride collection products! 100% of profits go to support LGBTQ organizations fighting on the frontlines of equality! Stay tuned as we announce a new partnership each week, during the month of December!

And the holidays are just around the corner! These limited-edition items make great gifts and stocking stuffers!

Tie The Knot Welcomes Guest Bartenders for pride!

For this year's Pride Collection, Tie The Knot and The Tie Bar were excited to announce our first Guest Bartenders during Pride to promote our 2018 Pride Collection! We were honored to have Brock & Chris of @yummertime, Will of @brightbazaar, Aaron of @themodernotter, and Diego of @diegodowntown

Pride has always been an important time for our community so we asked our Guest Bartenders to share more about what Pride means to them. Scroll down to hear what they said!

Brock and Chris of @yummertime

Brock and Chris of @yummertime

For Brock and Chris, "Pride stands for how far we've come, amidst all the glitter and rainbows and colorful floats, gratitude for those who came and struggled before us. It's a time to celebrate the fact that love comes in all forms, all shapes and sizes, and should have no boundaries, no limits. Be love. That's it. We still have a long ways to go, and we've come such a long way already. And so, to us, Pride represents a breath of fresh air, for a moment, where we can stand loving together."

Diego of @diegodownton

Diego of @diegodownton

"Pride is a time for the LGBTQ community to come together to celebrate and embrace our diversity. We are all a part of the human fabric and each person contributes their own unique color to that fabric. Having Pride is important in order to love yourself and others." - Diego

Aaron Wester of @themodernotter

Aaron Wester of @themodernotter

"I’m intolerant of inequality. I’m marrying my partner in November! That wasn’t even an option a few years ago. We have come so far in our fight for equality because our community stood together to change the hearts and minds of others. I owe so much to those that came before me and recognize how important visibility and unity are in effecting change. I think Pride means standing strong in your convictions and not apologizing for who you are. It means living your life as authentically as you can and fighting for those who can't. I am thrilled to share Tie The Knot’s message of individuality and their support of organizations that champion the civil rights of the LGBTQ+ community.” - Aaron Wester

Will Taylor of @brightbazaar

Will Taylor of @brightbazaar

"I'm delighted to support Tie The Knot's efforts to advance and improve LGBTQ equality and rights to marriage around the world. I think it can be easy to assume that once a country grants the right to members of the LGBTQ community to marry, that there's no longer a need for a fight for their rights. Sadly, this is far from the reality, which means the work of organizations like Tie The Knot are essential to raising awareness and support for LGBTQ equality." - Will Taylor

We were honored to have these Guest Bartenders represent Tie The Knot and help us spread equality this summer! Proceeds from the Pride Collection will go to support organizations on the frontlines of equality.

Tie The Knot Hosts Pride Event in NYC

unnamed-4.jpg

We were excited to partner with Chappy to host a discussion on "Pride and Your Influence," during NYC Pride! Orange Is The New Black actress Lea DeLaria joined Jesse Tyler Ferguson on stage for an evening of fun libations and light-hearted conversation on how we all can play an important part in moving our LGBTQ community forward, especially during Pride Month.

Pride has always been an important time for our community and Jesse and Lea shared how Pride celebrations have changed and evolved over the years, especially after a post-marriage equality world. "Educate, learn about the history and all those who opened the doors for you," said Jesse. The important thing to remember is that pride is not only a time to celebrate but also a time to learn about all the various communities within the #LGTBQ world and how we can all be a better ally for each other.

The Queer community has accomplished so much, and as long as we go forward with love and authenticity; the future of our community is bright.
